From the time I realised that I loved writing as a teenager, I have had a secret desire to be a writer, but I didn't dare disclose it to anyone. I didn't think it would necessarily be practical in terms of making a living, but I wanted it to lead to something I could do, either professionally or as a hobby.

Writing for Suite 101 is my way of making my dream a reality - it feels like I'm actually doing something about it rather than mooching around wishing it could have happened for me and passed me by. When I received positive comments from family, friends and co-workers about my style of writing, I knew I couldn't leave it and decided I would give it a go.

If it amounts to anything more than a hobby, great! Otherwise, I will just do it as a way of relaxing and letting off steam. I hope someone benefits from my writing, it will make me happy to know if I can make a difference in other people's lives. I write from life experiences and figure that if I'm having trouble with something, there's a chance someone else is probably experiencing something similar.

I have one teen and one pre-teen and I find that as a single parent, the goalposts are always changing. Nothing is ever static, things are always changing. Learning and evolving are very important things, and life is always throwing us opportunities to learn, about ourselves and other people. Writing is now such an important part of my life and I can't imagine ever wanting to stop sharing my thoughts.
